June 2026
This month, I felt called to write a short essay on a specific archetype. I hope you find this bird's-eye view helpful and refreshing.
Archetypes are multifaceted, like a jewel. When we turn the jewel, we see it in a new light, and when we honestly reflect on an archetype, we may see its many faces reflected back at us through the sacred mirror of astrology.
This month, the jewel of the sky, Venus, enters the sign of the kingly Sun, Leo. Ahead of the Sun in zodiacal order, the beautiful evening star Venus will reach Leo before its own ruler, the Sun. Venus is peregrine, or neutral, in the sign of Leo, meaning she doesn't have any essential dignity (good or bad) in that sign. Look towards the west just after sunset, preferably somewhere with an open horizon, and you will see her.
Venus brings significations of love, harmony, sensuality, and art, just to name a few. But when we turn the Venusian jewel, we may also get lust, appetite, vanity, and superficiality.
A perfect example of this archetypal dyad is the fairytale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White represents the pure, unadulterated beauty and innocence of the young maiden, while the Evil Queen shows us what happens when beauty turns to lust, with an unsatiated desire to be the fairest in the land.
The thing is, our world is composed of these opposites. There will always be heroes and villains, Sun and Moon, day and night. But even the Moon comes out during the day sometimes. Without this play of polarities, there would be no drama on the stage of life.
This month, I believe we are all presented with a potent opportunity to ask ourselves: What happens when beauty takes the throne? What happens when the positively pleasurable things in life are given a moment in the Sun? What happens when the riches of the material world are allocated towards art instead of war?
Can you imagine where you could give love another chance? Where you could choose to see the beauty in this world instead of the negativity? And most importantly, where you could turn the jewel of your life to see your own reflection more clearly?
