Read for your rising sign
Happy winter solstice! The Sun moves into Capricorn on December 21st and begins its slow and steady climb back towards the Pole Star. The winter solstice marks the beginning of the return of light. Still immersed in the darkest months of the year, the sign of Capricorn gets its symbolic meaning from the slow relentless energy it takes the Sun to climb out of the depths of winter. This month let’s all celebrate the unique story Capricorn tells in our natal chart based on the house that it occupies.
Aries
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is chock-full of timeless life lessons. It is a perfect example of the dark and light sides of Capricorn. As an Aries rising, Capricorn resides in your 10th house of career and public reputation. The steely and ambitious determination of Capricorn can take you far in life but let it turn to power-hungry greed and you may be getting a visit from the ghost of Christmas past.
Taurus
Capricorn was called the ‘Gateway of the Gods’ by ancient astrologers. It is the sign where the light takes over from darkness and symbolically refers to the human desire to move upwards towards transcendence. Lucky for you, the kind of earthly realism needed to balance such a task is just what you embody. So whether it is the light of spring you desire or the light of transcendence, know that it will be returning soon.
Gemini
This unattributed quote sums up a lot about the holidays, “Christmas is a magical time of year… I just watched all my money magically disappear.” However, this holiday season try and lean into this Tom Brokaw quote instead and you are sure to find yourself on Santa’s “nice” list. “It’s easy to make a buck, but it’s a lot tougher to make a difference.”
Cancer
The zodiac is comprised of polarities. The Cancer-Capricorn axis is one of these. Cancer ushers in summer and Capricorn ushers in winter. But Cancer is actually the sign where the light starts to diminish and Capricorn, the sign where light begins to increase. They both contain a piece of the other. Meditate upon these dyads within your own relationships and if you are honest, I think you’ll be surprised by what you find.
Leo
In my opinion the story of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer is really a story about the courage it takes to just be one’s self. This can be hard in the face of adversity especially when people laugh and call you names. So be brave Leo, let you light shine bright and you will make it though the winter nights.
Virgo
Sometimes we find ourselves in the depths of darkness. Whether it is the death of a loved one or just a hard day at the office, your meticulous and creative Virgoan energy will always pull you back towards the light. Be it baking Christmas cookies, curling up by the fire with a good book, or chatting with a close friend, this winter lean into the things that bring you joy.
Libra
Over the Mesa and through the Piñon to neighbor’s house we go. The truck knows the way to carry the hay, down the old dusty road. Hurray for the sun, is the chile done? New Mexico is home! The holidays are about a lot of things but a sense of home is a big one. Whether it is posole or pasta you are eating this season, try and enjoy the little things that make home a special place.
Scorpio
On the first day of Christmas my therapist gave to me, another remedy. On the second day of Christmas my therapist gave to me, a bill for the remedy. The holidays can feel like a lot. That’s because they are! Gatherings and expectations abound. With all that pressure there are sure to be slip-ups and mishaps, and that’s ok! Put your best foot forward and know that all is in right order.
Sagittarius
Only two signs in the zodiac are represented by a mythical creature. Your rising sign, a Centaur, and Capricorn, a sea goat. Half goat and half fish, Capricorn, is a truly enigmatic creature. So if the finances get tight this holiday season or you are feeling stressed out, just remember you are in good company. You and your menagerie of mythology will be able to figure it out.
Capricorn
While some may see you as mysterious or even austere, your friends know that is just your persistent and ambitious resourcefulness. People are going to judge you no matter what you do so you may as well be true to yourself whenever possible.
Aquarius
There is one thing Aquarius and Capricorn both have in common, their ruler is Saturn. This mysterious and mystical planet gets a bad wrap in modern astrology but in ancient astrology it was so much more than just the symbolic limitations placed on one’s life. What few fail to realize is that it is often limitations that drive the creative spirit. Lean into the limitations of the cold darkness of winter and you will be amazed what spring may give birth to.
Pisces
The Polar Express is a beautiful story about hope, imagination, and the power that faith has in keeping imagination alive. A lesson that I believe we can all benefit from this season. Do yourself a favor and one cold night this winter, revisit this story. It may be just what you need to keep your hopes and dreams of spring alive in your imagination.
