Our austere protagonist this month is Saturn. The door keeper of destiny, discipline, and decay. Saturn turns direct on November 16th. When a planet turns direct after a long retrograde it symbolically regains some of its power and autonomy. So here’s to turning over a new page this holiday season.  

Aries

A forest path at dusk. The leaves crinkle under your feet. Something obscure just out of your view causes you to pause. Panic wells up inside as you whirl around just in time to see… a squirrel cross your path. Fear really does make a bad seeing eye dog! 

Taurus

Birds have been powerful symbols in cultures everywhere since the dawn of humanity. Their super power is to see the big picture and survey the whole situation. This wisdom was summarized beautifully by Emily Dickinson when she wrote, “hope is the thing with feathers”. Perspective helps keep hope alive. 

Gemini

A festive fair of jovial jokers, kings and queens. It’s an otherworldly sight but the old crone in the corner is the one everybody notices first. You can always pretend to be someone else but by just being yourself you will receive the kind of attention you really want.   

Cancer 

Is there something that you have been floundering on since early summer? Travel plans, that class you’ve been meaning to take, or even a higher minded spiritual pursuit? Saturn’s symbolic change in direction should give you the nudge you need to move forward. 

Leo 

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” asked Alice.“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat. - Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. So, Leo, where are you going and where do you want to get to?

Virgo

So much of what makes the world go round is timing. Not the kind of timing that runs an atomic clock but the spontaneous timing of a chance meeting. Many relationships and businesses are formed in exactly this way. The weird thing about spontaneity is it actually takes a lot of patients and discipline. It feels like nothing is happening and then one day you look back and it is done.  

Libra

Unless it is a picture book you don’t just turn the page whenever you want. You turn the page when you get to the bottom. The same metaphor applies to life. Only you will know when that metaphorical page is meant to be turned and a new chapter of life opened. Don’t get stuck staring at the last paragraph, turn the page. 

Scorpio

You’re at a party. You keep getting weird looks. Nobody is talking to you. You look down and realize you don’t have any clothes on. You freeze in terror but… then you wake up. It was all a dream! The things we fear in life are often just figments of our imagination. Don’t get trapped in fear. Start by asking, “is this even real”?

Sagittarius

It’s the annual family reunion. You and your siblings are hashing out difficult childhood memories when your sister sheepishly says, “I kinda feel bad about that”. You muster up, “Wait, is that an apology?” She replies, “Yeah, I guess it is!” Some things might take 30 years to resolve but when the time is right take that as your key to move on. 

Capricorn 

Sometimes just being ok with the way things are is your only path forward. “The Way” as described in the Tao Te Ching is often misunderstood. It is not a straight path, progressing in a linear fashion, but a continuous molding and moving of the energies you encounter on a daily basis. Each interaction is unique and special. Taking this approach may soften your daily experiences from feeling hard and linear to soft and circular. 

Aquarius 

Inspiration can feel like catching lighting in a bottle, but in reality it rarely is. That seemingly random luck mostly comes from showing up over and over again and proving to the muse that you are serious about the inspiration you seek. With Aquarius being a Saturn ruled sign this should all be very reassuring. You are very good at the slow and methodical move towards the muse.   

Pisces 

Turning a new symbolic page within oneself may be the most difficult page to turn. That is why Indigenous cultures all over the world have initiation ceremonies. With that firmly lacking in western culture we are stuck with a sort of pseudo self attempt at adulthood. Most of us never quite get there. With Saturn turning direct in your 1st house it may be a good time to ask yourself, “Am I actually an adult?” If you are being honest with yourself, you may be surprised by the answer you get back.
