October 2024
Jupiter stations retrograde this month and will stay retrograde until February, 2025. This auspicious teacher cautions us, “don’t believe everything you think.”
Aries
Most of us are too busy or tired to stop and trace back the origin of our daily mental musings. But if we did, I bet we would be shocked at how much of what transpires in our own mind isn’t even ours. Jupiter will be retrograde in your 3rd house for several months so this will give you ample opportunity to unify your thoughts with the unique individual you are.
Taurus
You are in line at the coffee shop. You finally get to the register and place your order. You pull out your wallet to pay but the cashier says, “the customer in line before you paid for your drink. It’s on them today.” You look around but don’t even remember who was standing in front of you. Do you pass along the stranger’s favor? To live in “The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible” (Charles Eisenstein) we all have to participate in the mystery and the beauty.
Gemini
You flip on the TV one night to a random documentary about comparative religion. You’re fascinated! Up to this point you were a staunch scientific atheist. A month later you’re enrolled in a master class and a month after that you’re in Bali studying yoga! There’s no turning back and your life is changed forever. According to Bob Ross, a renowned American painter and television host, “There are no mistakes, just happy accidents.” Embrace those happy accidents.
Cancer
Imagine a beautiful garden in the Moonlight. A gentle breeze rustles the summer leaves and you sit there content. Underneath the bench a snake is curled up and sleeping. You don’t like snakes but you don’t even know it’s there. Ignorance really is bliss sometimes. Is this little scenario a riddle, maybe? Sometimes life is a blissful illusion and that’s ok.
Leo
Imagine a king, high in a tower on his throne. All the riches of the kingdom at his fingertips but he is unhappy. He yearns to feel the companionship of friends and the excitement of a group. Meanwhile the people of the kingdom long to experience only a fraction of the ease and wealth hidden behind those castle walls. This is a story as old as time and still continues to this day. It’s also a metaphor for the artificial boundaries created by human kind. Now it is your turn to deconstruct those boundaries in your own mind and decide what it is that you wish to unify and where you wish to find wholeness in your life.
Virgo
“Millionaires don’t use Astrology, billionaires do!” J.P. Morgan. While you marinate on that quote this month make sure to check in, not with your bank account, but with your heart and how much fulfillment you are experiencing. Money can buy a lot of things but it can’t buy happiness.
Libra
Think of something you really believe. A belief so strong you couldn’t imagine life without it. Now imagine there is someone out there in the world who feels the complete opposite. This is the dichotomy of the human experience. But don’t worry about them, focus on you. Just don’t forget that dichotomy and life will be a smooth ride.
Scorpio
In Greek mythology there is the concept of Kronos vs Kairos. Kronos is the god of time. Not clock time but the time it takes for an apple to rot on the ground, for example. Kairos on the other hand is the god of numinous time. The instinctual timing of a marriage proposal or a mother attending to her baby. The main difference is one is up to you and one isn’t. Can you guess which one?
Sagittarius
“Home is where the heart is.” If taken literally this common phrase would actually mean you are at home within yourself. Ultimately this should be the goal, but we all know that the phrase is referring to our loved ones. If you’ve neglected any of those close relationships in your life, now is the time to make your way back home to them.
Capricorn
I heard a great philosopher once say, “Humans are not made of cells, they are made of stories.” The most import stories are the ones that we tell ourselves everyday. If there is something that you want to change this month try starting with the story. As the well-know idiom states, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”
Aquarius
Sometimes the most beautiful art is the simplest. A Zen ensō painting of a circle is one color and one continuous brush stroke. Be mindful of when less is actually more.
Pisces
Small families can feel big and big families can certainly feel small. When Jupiter transits your 4th house it isn’t the size of your family that matters at all. It is unity, wholeness, and generosity that makes Jupiter the god of plenty.
